Mori Seiki Challenges IMTS Visitors to Think Big
Company to Showcase Revolutionary Machines and Innovative Solutions in Booth A-8400

Chicago, Illinois, June 12, 2008 – Visitors to the Mori Seiki booth (A-8400) at this year's International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) will see big ideas come to light, as the company's commitment to innovation, research and development is realized with the debut of the NT6600 DCG®/4000CS. The revolutionary integrated mill turn center will join nearly twenty ground-breaking machines at the show, which runs from September 8 – 13 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

Offering unmatched accuracy and flexibility, Mori Seiki's NT6600 DCG/4000CS boasts the world's largest Y-axis travel, as well as the fastest Z-axis rapid traverse rate and tool change in its class. With a footprint of 33.1' x 14.9' x 14.7', the NT6600 DCG/4000CS is ideal for machining large parts and long workpieces for the aerospace, oil and natural gas industries and offers a maximum machining length of 13.3 feet. Additionally, the machine employs DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity) technology, the box-in-box construction of the NH Series horizontal machining centers and the turret with built-in milling motor from the NL Series of CNC lathes. Like other machines in Mori Seiki’s NT Series, the NT6600 DCG/4000CS contains a B-axis that uses a
DD (Direct Drive) motor, eliminating backlash and making high-speed rotation possible.

Visitors will also see the NMV8000 DCG, a 5-axis vertical machining center created to meet the needs of manufacturers producing large, complex parts. Building off the highly successful design of the NMV5000 DCG, the new machine accommodates workpieces up to a diameter of 39.7“, weighing up to 2,200 lbs. In developing the NMV Series, Mori Seiki concentrated on both high-precision machining and ease of use.

Additionally, Mori Seiki will showcase the DIXI JIG 1200 High Precision Horizontal Machining Center. Manufactured in Le Locle, Switzerland, this machine offers manufacturers unmatched precision in demanding
applications. The JIG 1200 is a relatively large machine and provides axis strokes of 47.2“ x 43.3“ x 43.3“ with a 49.2“ x 39.3“ table that is capable of supporting over 5,500 lbs. While positioning accuracy of 5 μm is typical for this class of machines, the JIG 1200 actually provides positioning accuracy of .99 μm.

Joining the lineup of revolutionary machines in booth A-8400 will be a demonstration from Mori Seiki University (MSU), a recently established division that functions as a comprehensive educational resource. MSU
works to keep the expertise of employees, distributors and customers on par with today’s rapid rate of technological advance. It has provided over 10,000 hours of training to employees, distributors and customers
since its launch in 2007. Enrollment in classes is now open to all customers, who can attend classes at MSU’s 9,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art training facility or via Education On Demand, an immersive and unique online training environment.

Also featured in booth A-8400 will be machines from Mori Seiki's DuraTurn, DuraVertical, NL, NX, NZ, NMH and NMV Series, the company's Taiyo Koki vertical grinding machines and products developed by its Machining Technology Laboratory (MTL). MTL concentrates on developing innovative technologies that improve all aspects of machining processes. Current examples of these technologies include the Hydrogage, Spinning Tool and Adaptive Balancer.

Additionally, Mori Seiki will provide information on its new Digital Technology Laboratory Corporation (DTL). DTL, a subsidiary of the company, is dedicated to creating high performance and low cost solutions for Mori Seiki and its customers by providing innovative analysis methodologies, advanced mechanical design techniques, and high performance software solutions.
